Electric cars are over 100 years old! In 1891 the first successful electric automobile in the United States was built and soon after Anderson Electric Car Company (the makers of this Detroit Electric) started their electric car production in 1907. WAAAM’s Detroit Electric still has its original rechargeable lead acid batteries from the Edison Electric Company. Detroit Electrics were advertised to get 80 miles to the charge at speeds of 20-25 mph which was just right for the two most common types of electric car vehicle owners – doctors making house calls or ladies visiting friends and relatives. The WAAAM car is currently being restored back to operating condition on our display floors. *There is currently some debate on the age of the year of this vehicle.
