The Davis Monoplane Company of Richmond, Indiana built a total of about sixty airplanes in its short life, of which eleven were D-1-K. The Davis evolved from the Vulcan American Moth after Walter Davis bought and reorganized the Vulcan Aircraft Company. This airplane was flown in the movie The Tarnished Angels. It also has the distinction of having the oldest Kinner engine still flying.
